First Aid at Work

Our First Aid at Work Training Course is our most comprehensive first aid training course, delivered over 3 days (18 hours), and will qualify students to deliver First Aid at Work. It complies with the legal requirement for employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. These Regulations apply to all workplaces including those with fewer than five employees and to the self-employed.  This course is longer and more comprehensive than the Emergency First Aid at Work course, so it is designed for higher risk environments.  However, the 3 days are spaced over a period of 3 weeks, to give students time to assimilate the subjects.

Over the course of the 3 days you will learn the basic medical skills required for giving immediate assistance to someone in need. This goes from knowing how to apply a simple bandage to performing Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to someone who has just suffered a Sudden Cardiac Arrest. These skills, and many others (as shown in the syllabus below) will be taught, demonstrated and performed.

The first aid training course is located in Frome, Somerset.

The cost of First Aid at Work is £210 per person.  If you book more than 5 spaces you can qualify for a discount – please get in touch to find out more.

We run our courses for a maximum of 8 students at a time.

First Aid at Work blended learning

The first aid training course can also be delivered as a blended learning course, involving an online study course of 6 hours, complete with progress checks tests and a final exam, followed by 2 days in the classroom (12 hours).

The idea is that the initial computer based learning will cover all the topics, so that students will have an overall understanding of by the time they come to the classroom.  All the subjects will be covered in separate modules, with progress checks and mini-exams along the way.  Students have their own unique login code, and they can take this online part of the course at their own pace in their own environment.

Once the online part is complete the students will then have 2 days in the classroom, during which they will broaden and deepen their knowledge with practise and application; it will include a formal assessment and an exam, just as in the 3 day course.

The Emergency First Aid at Work course takes one day (6 hours). It is designed to qualify you as an Emergency First Aider at Work. This is similar to the three-day First Aid at Work course, with the exception of some injuries and illnesses which are not covered.  Examples of these include poisoning, suspected spinal injuries, anaphylactic shock, or diabetes.  As such, it is considered to be suitable for employers operating in a lower risk environment.

Employers are responsible their own risk assessment and selecting which course is appropriate for them in their own workplace.

The Basic Life Support is the only course not officially recognised by the Health and Safety Executive.  This is a popular course aimed at any member of the public or organisation. It is designed so that any person can learn basic emergency life-saving skills which could be of use in a potential life-threatening emergency.

Because this is a shorter course than the others, the only life-threatening situations it includes are Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Wounds & Bleeding (including catastrophic bleeding), and choking. The use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) is also taught, and the anatomy of the heart is also covered.  The course duration is only 4 hours, and it includes plenty of hands-on practise to make students feel confident in being able to apply those skills in a live situation.
